Andermatt
Andermatt
Switzerland
The Swiss Alps ... skiing, hiking, biking and now padel! Andermatt is your perfect year round Alpine destination with a little bit of magic for everyone. The stunning views, delicious food and laid back atmosphere have positioned this resort as the best of the best and all for good reason, by the way.
The ultimate Alpine experience
St. Mortiz, Gstaad and Zermatt, some of the most exclusive and luxurious ski areas in the world and all nestled into the Alpine mountains. But there is a new kid on the block, looking to take the top spot. With peaks over 3,000m, some of the region’s best off-piste skiing and 500km of breath-taking hiking trails for summer visitors, Andermatt is positioning itself as a must-visit year-round destination.
There is nothing better in this life than opening your curtains to incredible views through the valley up to snow-covered mountains beyond. If you are a skiing fanatic, then the never-ending mesh of pristine runs will keep you entertained, but much to everyone’s surprise, the Alps are much more than just their winter snow-covered persona. In the summer months the area springs to life with local wildlife and adventure-hungry tourists looking to push themselves on the area’s expansive hiking and biking routes. But at Andermatt, the summer is far more than just that, it is arguably when the town comes into its own. Is it the Michelin star food options, or the mountain spas, the luxurious hotels and chalets, and the spectacular views? Or is it the padel? Yes, alpine padel. Does it get better than that?

For any other ski resort, this section would parade the size of the ski area, number of lifts or the town’s shopping options. But Andermatt isn’t any old resort so take our word that all of these things are top of the range. Top,top, top. What we are going to talk about is the golf course. Yes, there is a golf course, and an award-winning one at that. 18 holes of world-class golf, named as the best course in Switzerland and tucked into the stunning Ursern Valley. The course was designed by the renowned golf course architect Kurt Rossknecht. He incorporated the existing terrain in such a way that the course blends seamlessly into the surroundings. That gives the golf course in Andermatt its incomparable charm and makes it an attraction of its very own. With this in mind, it is not just golfers who this appeals to, but the environment of the valley is one which captures the hearts of many, whether it be through hiking, mountain biking or simply just those passing by.
Another of the highlights is the concert hall. This unique venue is the first concert hall in the Alps to be able to host a full 75 person orchestra. With this onsite, the resort hosts a full programme of incredible productions from around the world. This unique experience is further complemented by the phenomenal dining options that the area boasts. With three Michelin-starred restaurants, there is no shortage of world-class food and your trip can easily become a culinary adventure if you so choose.
The array of spectacular hotels also positions the resort as a must-visit. The Chedi Hotel takes centre stage and much of this is down to its 2,400-square-metre Spa & Health Club. Designed to harmonise body, mind, and soul, this is the ultimate relaxation experience and one which should not be missed. Their 12 luxury treatment rooms provide the space for a full refresh, allowing you to leave any stress behind. With this combination of active and relaxing activities, as well as the resort’s padel courts which provide incredible mountain views and a fantastic playing experience, Andermatt has positioned itself as one of the top year-round Alpine destinations and believe us it is.
